FAQ

Q: What is Microblading?

A: This is the process of infusing pigment into the skin to simulate the appearance of natural hair. It is considered a tattoo, and permanent makeup. Although it is considered permanent makeup, it fades over time. Touchups are suggested once a year to a year and 6 months in order to keep the color fresh and shape precise.

Microblading is meant to be a subtle natural enhancement, and to create fuller more beautiful brows. It looks most natural on clients who already have semi full brow hair, and are wanting to perfect their shape. The more hair you have, the more natural it will appear.

Microblading heals best on young, healthy, and dry/normal skin.

Oily skin and aging/thin skin is not recommended for microblading. Results will not heal as well, or look as natural. If you are in this category, you would be a better candidate for the combination or ombre brow.

Q: What is a Combo or Ombre powdered Brow?

A: This is the process of infusing pigment into the skin to simulate the appearance of filled in brows. This is perfect for clients who are perfectionists!

Combination brow is done with hair strokes at the head of the brow, and then the rest filled in. This is a beautiful look for ALL skin types, and heals very soft and beautiful.

Q: What is lip blush ?

A: This is the process of infusing pigment into the lips to create perfectly shaped, natural pink lips.

It does not make lips fuller as injections would, but they will look slightly bigger as we enhance your vermilion border.

Please exfoliate daily and moisturize lips 1 week prior to appointment.

If you have experienced cold sores in the past, you will need to be on Valtrex before your appointment. You can get this through your doctor. You cannot have this done during an active outbreak.

Two sessions are recommended. $500 for the first session and $150 for the second session!

Q: What is lip Neutralizer ?

A: This is the process of infusing pigment into the lips to colour correct the cool tones in your lips, this means your first session the colour will have to be ORANGE. If you tattoo any other colour you run the risk of your lips turning darker or having no result at all. When healed at 6 weeks, most of the darkness in your lips will be covered and your lips will have a nude-pink even tone. Note that results cannot be guaranteed and lightening or evening out dark lips may take a few sessions at regular touchup pricing.

Q: How long with Semi-Permanent cosmetic tattooing last?

A: Cosmetic tattooing is designed to fade over time. Factors such as skin type, lifestyle, age, pre/post care, metabolism, medications, and pigment color affect the longevity of the tattoo.

The sun and some kinds of lighting (tanning beds) can affect the rate at which these pigments are broken down. To take care of your brows follow the aftercare instructions and touch-up your brows every 12-18 months (as needed). Touch-ups are normal and expected for Permanent Cosmetics.

*Please note that final results vary and CANNOT be guaranteed due to the nature of skin as it heals. A follow-up appointment is recommended at 6-8 weeks where we can assess your pigment retention and make any changes necessary.*

Q: what will i need to care for my tattoo?

A: All services are provided with an aftercare kit that is included in the cost of the service. This kit includes soap, ointment, cotton rounds, and a detailed description of how to care for the tattoo, and what to expect during the healing process.

Q: What factors will affect my semi-Permanent Cosmetics?

A: Oily Skin: Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and heal lighter and powdery.

Smoking: Smokers may notice that their Semi-Permanent Cosmetics will fade faster.

Anemia and iron deficiency: Your body will absorb these iron-based pigments more quickly.

Sun exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading. You will want to use a special sunscreen for your Semi-Permanent Cosmetics; I recommend Color Guard. You can find it on Amazon.

Age and metabolism. The Faster your metabolism the faster the pigment will fade.

Bleeding during the procedure: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow before care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications, alcohol, and caffeine 24 hours before your procedure.

Q: avoid any of these before your procedure?

A:

  • Do not work out the day of your appointment.

  • You should not take any medications that may thin your blood (i.e. Aspirin, Ibproferen) 72 hours before or immediately after your procedure.

  • Do not drink alcohol within 24 hours of your procedure.

  • Avoid caffeine for 24 hours before your procedure. (Caffeine increases blood flow and will effect your healed results).

Q: How should I prepare for my appointment??

A:

  • If you tint your brows you will want to do so 72 hours before your appointment.

  • You must not use Retin-A near the brow area 2 weeks before or after the procedure.

  • You will need to avoid water for 7 -10 days after! This includes excessive sweating, pools, lakes, salt water, and extreme sun exposure, so plan your vacations accordingly!

  • No Botox, fillers, Microdermabrasion, chemical peels, or anything of the like for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure, and also two weeks after.

  • If you have reference pictures, please feel free to bring these to your appointment. Along with the pencil or powder you are currently using, or lipstick for lip blush.

  • Wear comfortable clothing, and bring water if you need it.

  • Don’t be in a rush, sometimes appointments can take longer and we never want you to be in a rush to leave.

Q: does cosmetic tattooing hurt?

A: Topical 5% Lidocaine (Zenza) is used to make you comfortable during your Semi-Permanent Cosmetic procedure, however pain tolerance varies from client to client. Having the procedure during your menstrual cycle may increase your sensitivity. Most clients report that the pain is very minimal if any at all. However, clients who have taken blood thinners and coffee will be extra sensitive. Caffeine and blood thinners can combat numbing and make your lips more sensitive to the tattoo. Caffeine can also thin the blood and can aid in poor pigment retention.

Q: What can prevent me from receiving a Cosmetic tattoo?

A: You cannot receive semi-permanent cosmetics if you are:

  • Are currently using Accutane or have used Accutane within the past year

  • Have a freshly tanned/sunburned face

  • Are on blood thinning medications or antibiotics

  • Have Rosacea in area of the tattoo

  • Are currently undergoing cancer treatment

  • Must be off Chemo or Radiation for 6 months

  • Pregnant/breastfeeding

  • Have previous work that hasn’t been approved by us to correct. Please email.

  • Have a history of keloid scarring

  • Used retinol within 2 weeks

  • Failure To Read The Confirmation Email And Cancel After The 48 Hours Policy Due To One Of These Preventing You From Completing The Procedure Will Still Result In The 50% Of Appointment Fee Charged To The Card On File.

Q: what can i expect for after my appointment(brow)?

A: In the hours following your procedure your brows will appear much darker and bolder than they will heal due to oxidation in the surface layer of your skin. Your brows could also appear warmer in color. You may experience some redness or swelling around the treated area, this typically disappears within 48 hours.

Around day 3 you may notice some flaking or light scabbing on the treated area, DO NOT PICK AT IT, doing so can result in loss of pigment in those areas. Brows may appear spotty or patchy until the entire brow has finished healing. You may notice that some areas may appear very light or even to have lost pigment entirely after they have peeled, the epidermis will be thicker causing muting, hiding, or diffusing of pigment underneath.

The epidermis will normalize over the next 6-8 weeks and softened pigment should appear more clearly on the surface of the skin.

At 4-6 weeks your brows will be fully healed. Whatever pigment that does not return will be addressed at your touch-up appointment or if you would prefer darker, bolder brows we can always add more color or dimension during that appointment!

Q: What will my home care be (BROWS)?

A: Wash morning and night for 7 days with a gentle cleanser! Wash within 4 hours of getting brows done. (Make sure to wash OUTSIDE shower. Look in the mirror while washing so you can make sure to be EXTRA gentle. Only wipe gently in the direction of hair growth, with no circles or hard rubbing. Wash will warm or cool water, and pat dry with clean paper towel).

*Keep dry (besides washing) until completely healed. Aka no scabbing or flaking left! Usually 10 days.

Clients still need to keep dry in the shower... steamy hot showers will cause the pores to open and scabs soften, so to be cautious, no extra steamy hot showers!! Avoid the water ESPECIALLY shampoo and conditioner running down.. that'll cause color discoloration!

No excessive sweating

No sauna, hot tub, pool, ocean, etc.

Do not pick, rub, or scratch scabs! Avoid sleeping on face.

Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks

No anti aging or acne products on them ever!! Will cause fading very quickly. This is anything with chemical exfoliants such as Retinol, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, etc.

Balm 3 times daily with Q-Tip! If client is oily, 2 times daily. Use the balm until it's gone, usually takes about 10 days or more!

Q: Do I need a touch-up/follow-up appointment?

A: Yes! All Permanent Cosmetic procedures require 2 sessions.

During your 6-8 week follow-up, we can assess your pigment retention and make any adjustments needed.

This follow-up also increases the longevity of your Semi-Permanent Cosmetics.

Q: Do I need a consultation before getting Semi-Permanent Cosmetics??

A: You can book consults through our online booking, or you can have a consult by emailing brookesarahartisty@gmail.com

Q: I have had my brows/lips/liner tattooed before, can you fix them/touch them up?

A: I require that anyone who has had their brows tattooed previously by another artist email me a picture before booking an appointment. This way we can discuss price, your options and schedule sufficient time. Any client coming to me from a different artist is considered a new client, with full prices.

Q: How Do You Pick A Colour For Lip Blush?

A: I Suggest My Clients To Bring In Their Favorite Lipstick To Color Match. We Can Also Color Match Close To Your Natural Lip Colour. Although We Can Get The Color Close To Your Desired Lipstick, Results Can Never Be Guaranteed As Everyone Heals Slightly Different.

Q: Can I Get Lip Blush If I Have Lip Filler?

A: Yes! Having Lip Filler Doesn’t Interfere With The Process Of Tattooing Lips Or The Results. Note That Lip Filler And Lip Blush Appointments MUST Be At Least 4 Weeks Apart From Each Other. It Is Also Suggested That Lip Blush Be Done After The Filler Appointment And Not Before.

Q: Can Lip Blush Trigger Cold Sores?

A: This Procedure Can Trigger Cold Sores For Carriers Of The Herpes Simplex Virus. To Prevent Cold Sores From Flaring Up It Is Recommended To Go To Your Family Doctor And Get Valtrex Or Another Antiviral Medication Prescribed To Take 5 Days Prior Procedure, The Day Of, And 5 Days After. Note That A Cold Sore Outbreak Can Alter The Healed Results Of The Tattoo.

Q: How Long Does Healing Take For Lip Blush?

A: Some swelling and tenderness after the procedure is normal and may last a day or so. Your lips may look like you got lip filler, however, this is normal and typically subsides within the first 24 hours. Also, your lips will appear darker for the first few days. Lips have the easiest and fastest healing. It only takes about 4-5 days to heal. During this time, you will need to apply ointment as your lips will be chapped.

Q: Can We Correct Scars, And Symmetry?

A: Yes!! We Can Scar Camouflage And Help Correct Symmetry. Scars Can Sometimes Be Unpredictable For Retention And May Require One Additional Touch Up For Desired Results.

Q: Can i still get lip filler after lip blush?

A: Yes! In no way does having Lip filler interfere with the process of tattooing lips or the results. Note that lip filler and lip blush appointments MUST be at least 4 weeks apart from each other.

Q: will the lip blush look like lipstick?

A: Natural Lips or Lip Blush is a technique that produces more of a "nude lip," or "lip tint," result, however, everybody's skin takes the tattoo differently. I always start light and we can build color on touchup.

Q: Can we go outside the lip line?

A: Yes, only 2mm. The skin on the lips is not the same as on the face and things can look unnatural or get unpredictable when we tattoo too far outside the natural lip line.

Q: what is my home care for lips ?

A: Washing with provided ointment, and applying lip balm provided multiple times a day.

Q: What IS A LASH LINE ENHANCEMENT TATTOO?

A: Eyeliner Tattoo is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo on the lash line to enhance the shape and size of the eye.

Q: HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

A: The lash line enhancement can last up to 2 years but a 1 year touch-up is recommended to keep the colour and shape looking sharp.

Q: HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

A: The initial procedure takes approximately 2 hours.

Q: what is brow lamination?

A: Brow lamination is a semi-permanent treatment that involves using a chemical solution to shape and set eyebrow hairs in a desired position. It can help create a fuller, more defined look for your eyebrows.

Q: How long does brow lamiation last?

A: Brow lamination typically lasts for 4-6 weeks, depending on individual hair growth and maintenance.

Q: how do I prepare for my brow lamination appointment??

Q: Can I wear makeup after getting brow lamination??

A: Yes, you can wear makeup after getting brow lamination, but it's recommended to wait at least 24 hours before applying any products to the treated area.

Q: What is hybrid tint?

A: It is an innovative gel dye with similar intense and long-lasting effects as Henna. It is highly pigmented, stains sparse brows, and suits most skin types. It can give a dramatic or natural look, with 7 colors to mix together for your perfect match. Hybrid Brow Tint has no Ammonia.

Q: HOW LONG DOES hybrid tint LAST?

A: It lasts approx. 7 days on the skin and 7 weeks on the hair (low maintenance dreams!). Results vary and depend on various individual factors.

Q: What’s the process?

A: Firstly, you will have a discussion with the technician to decide on the best colour match and shape for you. Your brows will then be gently cleaned before being mapped. Mapping your brows ensures your brows are the ideal shape for your face. The Hybrid Tint will be applied and left to set for 10-20 minutes before being removed.

Q: Is Hybrid Tint for me??

A: Hybrid Tint is for anyone with thin, sparse brows seeking instant fullness. Those with healthy skin types which is not too oily also fit the criteria perfectly. Whether you’re after a very soft, natural-looking brow or more of a bold, brow-tattoo effect, Hybrid Tint can achieve these results.
